Acupuncture At A Glance:

Acupuncture is a time-honored therapy that originated in China over 2500 years ago, making it one of the oldest and most established health care systems in the world. Today acupuncture is an increasingly popular treatment that is being used by people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds. Acupuncture takes a holistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes. Acupuncture treats the person as a whole by re-balancing the body using needles as stimuli with minimal invasiveness. The goal of acupuncture is to activate the natural self-healing abilities of the body. It can also strengthen and a support the body to prevent future illness and disease. Acupuncture is safe, natural, drug free, and effective.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

The sensation caused by an acupuncture needle varies. Some people feel a small prick as the sterile disposable needles pass through the skin, although most people feel no pain at all. The needles are tiny, just a little larger than a cat’s whisker or a human hair. There may be sensations of heaviness or numbness, or a slight dull ache or twitch response.

What type of Schooling do Acupuncturists receive?

Acupuncturists receive 3-4 years of comprehensive graduate school training at nationally certified schools. By law, all acupuncturists must pass national board exams and meet strict guidelines to practice.
